Most disposable gloves sold as heavy duty in the UK are 5 to 6 mil. Autotop gloves are a true 8 mil nitrile compound, which is roughly a third thicker again, and that is the difference between a glove that lasts an oil change and one that splits halfway through.

What does 8 mil actually mean?
A mil is one thousandth of an inch. An 8 mil glove is 0.008 inches thick at the palm. Standard examination gloves are 3 to 4 mil, and most gloves marketed as heavy duty are 5 to 6 mil, so 8 mil sits at the tough end of the disposable range. Our nitrile glove thickness guide has the full chart.
Are nitrile gloves better than latex?
For workshop use, yes. Nitrile resists oils, fuels and solvents far better than latex, it punctures less easily, and nobody reacts to it the way some people react to latex protein.
Can these be washed and reused?
No. They are single use. The 8 mil thickness means they survive a long job, not multiple jobs.
Why buy a box of 50 rather than 100?
Fifty is the sensible quantity for a home garage, a small trade van or a workshop that does not get through gloves daily. There is no shelf life penalty for buying small, and you are not sitting on stock for three years.
