The flat webbing style spreads load across a wider contact area than round cord, which matters when you are strapping a tarpaulin over a trailer or holding a load on a roof rack, while the round cords are better for tying down lighter items where you want more stretch. Choosing between them is mostly about hook spacing. Measure the anchor to anchor distance, then pick a Rolson bungee cord roughly two thirds of that length so the cord is working under tension rather than sitting slack. Buying a short cord and overstretching it is the fastest way to fail a hook, so if you are between sizes go longer and double the cord back on itself.
