Can the terracotta pot men be left out all winter?

They will survive a mild winter under cover, but terracotta absorbs water and expands when it freezes, which is what cracks it. The safest approach is to raise them off the ground so water drains away, empty any planted pot men before the first hard frost, and move the smaller figures into a shed or porch from December until March.

Are the Lisa Parker planters real plant pots?

Yes. The triple moon and moon gazing hare bronze terracotta pieces are functional planters with proper depth, so they will take a small houseplant, a herb or a succulent. Check the individual listing for a drainage hole. Where there is not one, plant into a plastic liner and drop that inside rather than planting directly into the pot.

What size are the mini plant pot pals?

The gnome and mushroom sets are supplied as four small figures per set, designed to sit on the rim of a pot or nestle in the soil beside a plant rather than stand alone on a lawn. They suit a windowsill pot, a patio planter or a shelf indoors. Exact dimensions are given on each product page.

Do the metal Rolson ornaments rust outdoors?

They carry a painted or coated finish that handles normal British weather, but any metal ornament left in a permanently wet spot will eventually mark. Site them somewhere that dries out after rain rather than under a dripping gutter, and touch up any chips with exterior metal paint. The rustic and silver cockerel finishes are designed to weather rather than stay pristine.

Which ornaments work best on a small patio?

The small terracotta pot man, the two sets of mini plant pot pals and the Rolson sunflower plant ornament all take up very little floor space, and the moon shadows plaques hang on a wall or fence rather than occupying ground. Keep the large weather forecasting gnome and the forty six centimetre fairy figurine for larger borders or a lawn edge.

Terracotta Pot Men and Gnome Garden Ornaments

The signature pieces in this range are the pot men. These terracotta pot men come as a standard figure, a small version and a pot man planter you can actually grow into, and they sit as well on a doorstep as they do on a patio wall. Two sets of four mini plant pot pals join them, one gnome themed and one mushroom themed, sized to perch on the rim of an existing pot. A large weather forecasting gnome completes the gnome side, along with an owl family group.

Lisa Parker Terracotta Planters and Plaques

The bronze terracotta pieces by Lisa Parker are the collectable end of the collection. Two planters carry her artwork, a triple moon design and a moon gazing hare, both usable as genuine plant pots rather than shelf ornaments. Two moon shadows plaques come in bronze terracotta and a silver effect finish and are drilled for hanging on a fence or a wall. A forty six centimetre Amy Brown caretaker fairy figurine and a wooden bat house round out the decorative side. More indoor pieces sit in ornaments and plant pots.

Rolson Metal Garden Ornaments

Seven metal ornaments from Rolson Tools give the collection its harder wearing end. There are three cockerels, a large one at code 84006 and two rustic and silver finishes at 84134 and 84187, plus a duck at 84011 and a sunflower plant ornament at 84174. Two vehicle pieces complete the set, an open top bus at 84088 and a vintage three wheel car at 84103. Metal handles a British winter far better than resin does, so these are the ones to leave out year round. See garden outdoor for the wider Rolson range.

Placing and Looking After Garden Ornaments

Terracotta is porous, so a pot man or a planter left standing in a saucer of water through a hard frost will crack. Raise them on feet or a slab, let them drain, and bring the smaller pieces under cover in December if you want them to last. Resin figurines hold colour longest out of direct afternoon sun. The Rolson metal ornaments need nothing beyond an occasional wipe. Seasonal pieces such as a skeleton cookie set and a Halloween advent calendar also appear here alongside a sodalite crystal keepsake stone. See garden tools.

Ornaments as Gifts and Pack Quantities

Garden ornaments make dependable gifts because they do not need sizing and they do not clash with anything already in the house. A pot man planter or a set of mini plant pot pals suits someone who has just taken on a first garden or a balcony, while the Lisa Parker planters and plaques suit a collector who already owns other pieces from her range. Several lines here are catalogue items sold in trade multiples, shown in the product title as figures such as twelve or twenty four, so check the pack quantity before ordering if you only want one. Everything else is sold as a single piece. See home decor.
