Socket sets cover the work that screwdrivers and spanners cannot reach: tight fixings, wheel nuts, car maintenance and any job where you need to apply real torque from a small range of motion. Klevaro stocks a focused selection of Rolson socket sets in 1/4-inch, 3/8-inch and 1/2-inch drive, with metric, AF and combined sets to suit UK households, hobby mechanics and trade users. Browse the wider hand tools collection or jump to Rolson tools for the full range. If you would rather have sockets as part of a matched set with drivers and pliers, our tool kits page bundles them with the rest of the essentials.
Drive size is the most important spec on a socket set. The 1/4-inch drive is small and light: ideal for bicycles, motorbikes, small appliances and any fixing under M8. The 3/8-inch drive is the all-purpose UK choice and covers most home and car jobs in the M6 to M16 range. The 1/2-inch drive is the heavy-duty size for wheel nuts, suspension work, garden machinery and anything that needs serious leverage. For most home users, a combined 1/4 inch and 3/8 inch set covers daily needs; if you do your own brakes or change your own tyres, add a 1/2-inch breaker bar to the kit. Trade users typically run a 1/4 inch set on the bench for electronics and small repairs, with a 3/8 or 1/2 inch set in the van for vehicle and site work.
Modern UK and European hardware is metric. Older British cars, some classic machinery and US-imported tools use AF (imperial) sizes. Many of our Rolson sets include both, which avoids a frustrating round-trip to the shop mid-job. The other big choice is point count: 6-point sockets grip the flat sides of the nut and resist rounding on rusted fixings, while 12-point sockets engage easier in tight spaces. For most car and outdoor work, 6-point is the right default. Combination sets with both styles are available where you need flexibility, and deep sockets (longer than the standard length) are worth adding if you work on engine bolts that sit on long studs.
A socket set is only as good as the ratchet driving it. Look for a ratchet with at least 72 teeth (smaller swing arc, better in tight spaces) and a smooth direction-switch. A breaker bar is the safe way to free seized fixings: never extend a ratchet with a pipe. Universal joints and extension bars let you reach awkward bolts behind manifolds and inside wheel arches. For an organised storage option, our tool kits page also lists full mixed sets that pair sockets with screwdrivers and pliers in one matched case.
